StandStrong fitness is designed to make you feel as comfortable as possible as we know sometimes it can feel daunting. Our team helps members transform their lifestyle physically and mentally while encouraging community growth and a no-ego attitude.

The programs are progressive, not overwhelming.

How we helped Tammy to StandStrong?

Tammy came to us as she felt inadequate and decided enough was enough. She wanted to feel confident in her abilities as her kindness was mistaken for weakness.

Tammy worked in a corporate sales role. The industry culture made her feel uncomfortable when taking clients out on hospitality. Too often, the male clients would inappropriately place their hands on Tammy’s body. Tammy would fear the company would lose a client if she resisted. Over time, Tammy’s acceptance of this behaviour led to further sexual harassment, justifying them as normal in the workplace.

In our classes, we share experiences that women face regularly. Often, women prefer not to be confrontational or make a scene, but this impacts self-worth and boundaries. Instead, we teach our students to be comfortable with their choices, use their voices and create distance.

It wasn’t until Tammy joined StandStrong that she realised this was a toxic culture, and she could have used self-defence to prevent this from happening. Tammy needed confidence in her abilities to defend herself discretely, and if the situation evolved, she was confident to handle the situation with grace and conviction while being safe.

We are more than another self-defence school – we identify the real challenges women face. We work from the inside out. The self-defence techniques are valuable, but if you do not have the belief to StandStrong, you will not use them in real-life scenarios.

It is not OK for a person to grab your butt without permission. A gentle knock on their arm and a strong tone can be the difference between a person getting more physical or walking away knowing they can’t be forceful towards the person.

Tammy feels empowered. She has the physical and mental strength to communicate her boundaries and ensure they are respected.

Meet Hannah…

The truth is that up until 2017, my life looked very different. I was an anxious, depressed human with little to no self-worth. As far as I was concerned, I was not good enough and would never amount to anything. I battled with eating disorders and disordered eating, and at times wondered why I was even on this earth.  Then my life changed!

I had been training in Krav for 7 years at the time. Even during classes, I was afraid of being pulled up to the front of the class for demonstration as the negative self-talk would be constant – “you are not good enough”, “You are a fraud.” Yet somehow, in 2017, I found myself on the General Instructor Course under KMG UK.

Whilst I was doing my Krav Maga instructor course, the head instructor said to me, “you would go further if you didn’t live in your head so much”. These words stung. They stuck, and they forced me to make changes. Uncomfortable changes. Difficult changes. Painful changes. BUT changes that would take my life in a completely new direction.

I started to challenge my old story of who I was and what I was capable of. I began to unpick who I thought I was and my place in the world, and over time a stronger, more confident, more powerful version of myself emerged.

My love for training grew, and I expanded my knowledge into kettlebells and strength training under StrongFirst and became a level 3 personal trainer and nutrition coach.

I now take my experiences and use them to help people in similar situations to me. I champion the underdog, and I know change is possible with hard work and determination. I love people and hate seeing people suffer, so I created a space where people from all walks of life could come and train as equals, free from judgment or expectations on who they should be. To create a space where they could grow and fulfil their true potential.
